July 2023
Fire Council Meeting
In May of 2023 the Tres Rios Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management successfully burned 495 acres on Animas City Mountain, right next to the City of Durango. Deana Harms from the BLM gave a presentation on the operation and its outcomes at the July 2023 Fire Council Meeting. Watch the conversation and slideshow below.
Additional info from BLM: There are several plots within the Animas City Mountain project area. These plots are Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring Strategy (AIM) that are monitoring grass, forbs, and shrub species, along with wildlife habitat assessments. ACM was seeded with native grass and forb mix directly after burning when the area was receiving moisture. Most likely it will be years before an additional fuels treatments will be started on ACM. There is no plans to burn Units 1 and 2. Next BLM burn project in the Durango area will be burning the Grandview piles.
