WAP Receives $10,000 Home Hardening Grant from the National Fire Protection Association and State Farm

Saturday May 3rd is National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.

Sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages people and organizations everywhere to come together on a single day to take action to raise awareness and reduce wildfire risks. It is held in the United States and Canada on the first Saturday in May. When the program was piloted in 2013 in Colorado, both students and adults were eager to be a part of a day to raise awareness about wildfire safety involving hands-on risk reduction activities. Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is now celebrated across the nation.

In addition to promoting prep day and community celebration, this year the NFPA partnered with State Farm to offer organizations grant funding to do home hardening work in the first five feet of structures. WAP was lucky enough to be one of 12 organizations that received grant funding. Read the press release below. Due to limited funding, WAP is using the NFPA funding to offer Home Hardening Microgrants to Ambassador Communities only.
